Our Newquay BnB is busy and bustling again, and we’re really looking forward to the summer holiday season. But in between now and then our little town is still wonderfully busy, getting more so as the weather steadily improves. If you fancy a staycation this year instead of going abroad, fancy keeping your carbon footprint nice and low, Newquay has an awful lot to offer.
You don’t need to go all-out and attend every single event in town, of course. This is the perfect place to simply chill out, relax and do very little at all. Sit in our lounge and watch the world go by if you like. Lie on the beach and read for two weeks. Lounge in the sun with a newspaper. Do absolutely nothing if you wish – that’s what holidays are all about.
Having said all that, if you love to dive in and enjoy every available activity and opportunity, what’s on in Newquay this month? Here are some of the best.
This month’s headliners
Whiskers in Newquay is a hugely popular venue for live acts, everything from music and comedy to open mic nights and charity events. There’s something on at Whiskers almost every night through May, so make it your local and have the time of your life!
The Freeride World Jetski Championships take place at gorgeous Fistral beach from 11th to 13th May 2018, a feast of high-octane, international level thrills on the water. And the Surfaced Pro Surf Competition takes place at Westergate Bay on 12th to 13th May, too.
There’s a cool Charity Boxing Night at Newquay View Resort on 12th May and the Trevornick 10k race – open to competitors and observers – on 13th May at 10.30am. There’s an evening of mediumship on at the Lane Theatre, with Nikki Kitt in charge. Or roll time forwards to the 24th May and see Richard Digance at the Lane Theatre, doing his fantastic singing thing.
Oye Santana, the tribute band, are on stage at the Lane Theatre on 17th May. And the excellent Newquay Art 8 Festival runs from 18th to 20th May, with loads of exhibitions, workshops, arts and culture to absorb.
If you like your entertainment funny, you can enjoy the hilarious Jethro at the Newquay View Resort on 18th May, and there’s a Spring Fayre in the Park event at Trenance Cottages on the 20th.
The Chill at the Mill festival runs from 25th to 27th May, a three day reggae, funk and fab food at Mawgan Porth’s Retorrick Mill. And the end of May is jam packed with cool stuff to see and do, including dinner and jazz at Trerice Manor on 25th, and a Circus Skills Week at Flambards from 26th May. The Gruffalo visits nearby Wadebridge on 29th May and Paddington Bear visits Lappa Valley on 30th and 31st.
If all that’s a bit too lively for you, there are miles and miles of stunning Atlantic-facing beach and seashore to enjoy, as well as spectacular walking trails and paths, ancient monuments, glorious gardens and some of the nation’s most beautiful, unspoiled countryside.
