Our B&B offers convenient and friendly, smart and contemporary accommodation in Newquay. Once you’ve got that side of your holiday sorted, what’s on offer in our vibrant little town throughout August? We’ve picked out three of the Cornish summer’s best-loved highlights for you to enjoy.
Paulos Circus – Fun and games until 20th August
Like all B&Bs in Newquay, we fill up with holidaymakers through August. And summer holidays in Newquay are made a whole lot more fun for the family thanks to Paulos Circus. They’ve already pitched their big top on the Circus Field opposite Morrisons, and this year’s fabulously funny show is delighting hundreds of holidaymakers. You can reserve seats via the Circus’ Facebook page as well as buying tickets on the door from 10am every day, and all seats cost just £7, a brilliant deal.
What’s on offer this year? There’s a big, colourful heated Big Top tent and a brand new show for 2016. This year is special, the circus’ 200 year anniversary celebration marking two centuries of classic entertainment. You’ll meet the stars of ITV’s hit series, The Circus, as well as the folk from Channel 4’s popular Get Your Act Together, all collaborating to deliver a traditional circus with a touch of magic, something for everyone whether you’re six or a hundred and six.
The show comes to you courtesy of members of the fourth, fifth and sixth generations of the Paulos family and lasts an hour and twenty minutes with no breaks, a rip-roaring, dazzling, thrilling event you won’t want to miss.
As well as unforgettable circus entertainment the venue offers treats like candy floss, popcorn, hot-dogs, hot and cold drinks, flashing lights, balloons and more. And you’ll be glad to know they don’t use animals, just a bunch of hugely talented and hilariously funny humans. There are loos on site and there are spaces reserved for wheelchair users. Enjoy the spectacle!
The spectacular 5 day Boardmasters Festival – 10th to 14th August 2016
Head for the beautiful Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay at Towan Headland for this quirky two-site festival celebrating all the very best in music and extreme sport. You can get festival tickets from the Visit Newquay Tourist Information Centre on Marcus Hill.
Boardmasters features brilliant Beach Sessions with live music on Fistral Beach, plus a Beach Bar and BBQ, and a host of top DJ sets. Revellers then head into Newquay to carry on the party into the early hours with a series of legendary Boardmasters After Parties in the town’s great clubs.
People of every age love the amazing Pro Skate, surf and BMX competitions. There’s everything you could ever need to know about a collection of adrenaline-fuelled extreme sports, the famous Surf Village, wonderful Cornish Market packed with local delights, and a great line in Surf Art, photography and film.
If you’ve always fancied giving surfing a go yourself, you’re in the perfect place. You can take to the waves thanks to a surfing lesson from one of our excellent local surfing schools. Or just lounge… there are also plenty of opportunities to relax and unwind, chilling out in the lovely Wellbeing Area and enjoying the lovely On Site Eco Spa.
The Boardmasters festival has been on the go since 1981, and last year they welcomed more than 150,000 revellers. Join them for an epic 2016 event!
The brilliant Bowgie Inn Ale Festival 2016
The famous ‘pink pub’ holds its Ale Festival every August, on the Bank Holiday weekend, and this year’s event looks the best yet thanks to a long list of live music talent, real ales, Cornish ciders and more.
Find your way to scenic West Pentire and experience the Bowgie Inn Ale Festival for a warm local welcome, a veritable feast of great local ales, gorgeous food and back-to-back live music, all with beautiful views of the coast, the unspoiled beach at Crantock, Polly Joke, the Gannel and the dramatic headlands disappearing into the misty summer distance.
The Bowgie (Cornish for cowshed) is one of our country’s best-known pubs with quaint low beamed ceilings and plenty of character. Owner Andy Pickles has been at the helm for an impressive 43 years. Together with his wife Sally he’s created an atmosphere and vibe visitors never forget. It’s also home to whopping 70 inch HDTV screens which showcase every imaginable sport, making the place a destination for every taste, with something for everyone.
If you like your life chilled you can relax on the spectacular sun terrace away from the sport, savour some of the pub’s excellent food and enjoy superb live music, all in aid of a very good cause, the Cornwall Hospice Care charity.
