Are you planning a holiday in Newquay for June? If so we’re a popular choice as regards places to stay in Newquay, and we’re already in full swing for the summer. If you’ll be down our way during June, here are four of the best events you won’t want to miss.

RNLI Fundraising Day – Newquay RNLI Boathouse on South Quay Hill – 10th June

Our beaches are stunningly lovely. But the sea is always dangerous and deserves treating with the greatest respect. The same goes for our incredibly brave voluntary RNLI members, who help save lives off the local beaches and rugged coastline every year. If you’d like to help celebrate the service and support their invaluable work, come along to the Boat Station on Saturday and enjoy the Fundraising Day.

Drama by starlight – Night Surf at Newquay’s famous Fistral Beach

Head for the gorgeous beach at Fistral, Newquay, on Friday 16th at 4pm and Saturday 17th June at 3pm, for a surfing event with a difference. You’ll experience some of the planet’s keenest surfers doing their thing by moonlight, in one of the only night time surfing competitions in the world. This is the Smart Parking Night Surf, and they’ll be battling it out until 11.30pm on both days.

Just in case the moon doesn’t play ball, the two day UK Pro Surf Tour competition takes place under floodlights for an excellent viewing experience, and there’s a load of live music and plenty of DJs on board too, accompanying the action. The word on the streets is the firework display at 10.45pm on the Saturday is set to be a beauty, and the entire event is bigger than ever this year. We can’t wait!

The Electric Beach Festival – Great Western Beach – Friday 16th to Saturday 17th June

If watching skilled surfers battle the waves in the moonlight isn’t enough for you, tack the brilliant Electric Beach festival onto your itinerary and go for it. This is a fantastic two day event combining live music, bellyboard competitions, fire shows and yoga, a wonderfully eccentric combo that makes up one of our county’s best loved music events.

Badly Drawn Boy and Cuban Brothers are headlining this year, each performing a selection of top tracks on the gorgeous sands of Great Western Beach. Badly Drawn Boy won a coveted Mercury Prize in 2000 for his extraordinary début album, The Hour of Bewilderbeast, and he has a host of fans in the town. The Cuban Brothers also score high in the popularity stakes thanks to their remarkable display of high energy break dancing and lively tunes.

Joining the headline acts are the 8 piece funk reggae outfit Backbeat Sound System – a home grown band from St Austell – plus Wolf Club, Regime, Caravana Sun and a whole lot more that are still to be announced. The Dick Pearce & Friends Bellyboard Bash is set to be a real treat, complete with surfing competition for children and adults. Plus there’ll be SUP yoga sessions, fire shows and a brilliant surf simulator machine. Add local beers, great food and a backdrop of surging waves and it’s an unforgettable festival experience.

Newquay Surf Sevens Rugby Competition – Newquay Sports Centre – 24th to 25th June

Love rugby? You won’t want to miss the Newquay Surf 7, the south west’s biggest Rugby Sevens event attended by more than 100 of Europe’s very best teams. Saturday is the day of the Men’s Open Event and there’s the Women’s Open too, also featuring a host of the finest international teams.
