Our pretty little town is at its busiest when the weather’s at its best. At this time of year it’s quieter, mellower, more chilled, and our comfy, welcoming B and B in Newquay, Cornwall, is closed until spring.

In winter hardier types explore the beaches, combing the sands for interesting stuff washed up by the big winter seas. Cosier types fill our lively, friendly pubs while the wind howls outside. It’s all very atmospheric. And there are plenty of cool things to do during the festive season. Here’s our monthly run-down of some of the best bits.

Casino Royale Party at the Esplanade Hotel – 9th December

Dress yourself up to the nines in James Bond style and head for the  sumptuous Esplanade Hotel for a sophisticated evening including a splendid festive three course meal. The hotel’s Ocean View restaurant is your venue, where there are also plenty of thrilling casino tables and, afterwards, a chance to dance the night away with a DJ at the decks. A bargain at just £29 per person, the doors open at seven and stay open until late. Get your skates on to book places via events@newquay-hotels.co.uk or on 01637 873333.

A glittering Festive Weekend at Newquay Zoo – 10th and 11th December

Guests at our B & B Newquay, Cornwall, adore our award-winner of a local zoo at Restormel. It’s the focus of all sorts of fun and December is no exception. This weekend you can visit Santa in his Grotto and meet Pickle, the Zoo’s famous penguin. The zoo’s sub-tropical lakeside gardens are lovely even at this time of year and the animals are, of course, there all year round waiting to welcome you. The event takes place from 10am to 4.30pm Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th

Santa Silent Disco – Esplanade Hotel – 11th and 18th December

Sunday 11th and 18th December are taken care of if you have children, thanks to an awesome Silent Disco event. If you’ve never been to a silent disco, it’s huge fun. You hear the music through headphones, something kids find hilarious, and there’s a special guest appearance from Santa as well as festive arts and crafts. The event runs from 4pm – 6pm and costs £6 per child.

Keep Fistral Beach tidy! 17th December

Our beautiful, world famous beaches make the town and we’re very proud of them. That’s why so many volunteers turn up every time there’s a clean-up event to keep Newquay’s beaches in tip top condition. You’ll get loads of fresh air, meet friendly like-minded people and have a great time picking litter on magnificent Fistral Beach… after which, if you like, you can drop into one of the town’s excellent pubs and relax awhile. Arranged in conjunction with Keep Britain Tidy, Cornwall Council, South West Water, The Environment Agency and Visit Cornwall, the fun starts at 10am and ends at high noon.

Jack and the Beanstalk at the Lane Theatre – 18th December

Christmas isn’t Christmas without a panto, and Newquay never lets us down. The Lane Theatre is your venue for a festive rendition of Jack and the Beanstalk, which is by all accounts is selling like hot cakes so you’ll need to move fast.

Our friendly Bed & Breakfast Newquay – Taking bookings for 2017

Our popular bed breakfast Newquay opens its doors again in March to welcome another bunch of happy holidaymakers. Whether you want to spend your time surfing, partying, wildlife watching or exploring the stunning coastline and countryside round our way, book your rooms now to avoid disappointment. We’re looking forward to giving you a warm welcome. In the meantime, have a fabulous festive break and a wonderful New Year.

PS. If you fancy some entertainment on New Year’s Eve, why not come to Newquay to join the town’s famous fancy dress event? It’s brilliant. People come from far and wide to dress up in the most outrageous costumes, party in the streets and count down to midnight in scenic Central Square… nowhere near as big as New York’s Times Square but – we think – a whole lot more fun!
